Difficulty Swallowing / Dry Mouth
For people who have difficulty swallowing, also known as dysphagia, we stock a range of products that can help with some of the symptoms and the problems that arise from it.
We have ranges of thickened - low volume - complete nutrition - products, in interesting flavours to help keep the body weight of the patient up and in addition we stock a number of artificial saliva products to alleviate the discomfort of dry mouth.
Thickener Classification:
Level 1 Fluids: Thicker than water. Can be drunk from a cup or through a straw. Similar to single cream
Level 2 Fluids: Pours quickly from a spoon but more slowly than water. Can be drunk from a cup. Can be drunk through a straw with some effort.
Level 3 Fluids: Drips slowly through the prongs of a fork in dollops. Can be drunk from a cup. More difficult to drink through a straw.
Level 4 Fluids: Holds its shape and cannot be poured. Cannot be drunk from a cup or through a straw. usually taken on a spoon
We also have specialised Lemon and Glycerine and Polygon swabs to moisturise the mouths of patients who are no longer able to drink fluid.
